This feature painting is called “The Return of Spring”. The scene is striking with the rich blend of verdant greens, ochres and blues with the two figures seeming to pause and reflect as they pass through. This acrylic painting came to life during the pandemic lockdown and is a reflection on the timelessness of the seasons and the stability of the yearly cycle even amidst the uncertainty of a world chartering an unknown virus.
The stature of trees always inspires me and the oak trees in the distance of this painting really made me stop and take notice. To highlight the timelessness I wanted to include the two figures which were drawn from an old sepia photograph. I always love to explore mark-making and texture in my painting and this piece gave me plenty of scope to create depth and detail.
